Walk In Truth
A study of 1, 2, 3 John and Jude.
The Epistles of John (1 John, 2 John, 3 John) and the Epistle of Jude are all poignant readings for our current cultural moment. These writings are directed towards churches that are experiencing an infiltration of false teaching and divisive attitudes from those who are leaving the church. In these texts, our authors are explicit in encouraging the church to really know the Scriptures and understand the true Gospel of the finished work of Jesus so that they can combat these false teachings. Believers are encouraged to follow the commands of Jesus, live in a way that is righteous, and to truly love one another because they’ve been given extravagant grace, all in the context of doing so as a community. Both of these authors give a profound call for followers of Jesus to persevere because the reconciliation of all things is coming soon.
Throughout our series, my greatest hope is that we would learn to love and discern God’s truth that leads to life. In our time together we will be challenged, convicted by the difficult call to obey Jesus, and encouraged to live in true community with one another as we confess sin with vulnerability, speak the truth to each other, and create an atmosphere where repentance and mercy are a regular part of our spiritual practice.
